Red Sox to option Allen Craig to Triple-A, call up Jackie Bradley Jr.

Despite being owed $5.5 million this year, $9 million in 2016 and $11 million in 2017, the Red Sox will send outfielder Allen Craig down to Triple-A Pawtucket, the Boston Herald reports.

With the open roster spot, the Red Sox have called up Jackie Bradley Jr., according to ESPN. Bradley was hitting .343/.393/.465 in 99 at-bats for Pawtucket.

Just two years ago, Craig was a National League MVP candidate with the Cardinals, but now faces a crowded right field that features Shane Victorino, Rusney Castillo and Daniel Nava, possibly all on the roster by June. Craig may be the odd man out — and on his way out of Boston.

According to manager John Farrell, all roster moves are “under discussion right now." While that could mean a number of things, it doesn't help that Craig is batting just .135/.237/.192 in 52 at-bats this season.
