Canelo Alvarez destroys James Kirkland; wants Cotto and Golovkin
If you thought Canelo Alvarez vs. James Kirkland was going to be a snoozefest like last Saturday's fight with Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao , you were wrong. Alvarez destroyed Kirkland in an action-packed fight, winning by third-round knockout on Saturday night in front of 31,588 people at Minute Maid Park in Houston. To begin the fight, Kirkland came right to Alvarez and stunned him with a straight right hand, which backed the Mexican superstar against the ropes. Once Alvarez got off the ropes and threw his first shot, it was over for Kirkland. With the crowd roaring for Alvarez, he dropped Kirkland with a left hook/right uppercut combination with a little over a minute left in the round. Kirkland was able to get up at the count of eight and survived the rest of the round.
