MLB Nightly 9: Orioles win on 'Re-Opening Day'; Nationals stay hot

Each night we'll provide you with the nine top story lines from the day's action, beginning with the stars of the day, and look ahead to the next day's matchups. With Baltimore fans referring to it as "Re-Opening Day", the Orioles beat the Blue Jays Monday night in their first home game since April 29.  The Orioles had two games versus the White Sox postponed at the end of April before playing to an empty stadium on April 29 because of civil unrest in the city following the death of Freddie Gray. Baltimore then played a scheduled home series against the Rays in St. Petersburg, Fla.   On Monday, the Orioles wore special white jerseys with "Baltimore" on the front just for the occasion. The 5-2 victory was the first time since April 25 the Orioles played a game in front of their home fans. After that, 15 of their next 18 games will be inside Orioles Park at Camden Yards. The Nationals stayed hot in the desert, blasting their way to an 11-1 win over the Di...

Each night we'll provide you with the nine top story lines from the day's action, beginning with the stars of the day, and look ahead to the next day's matchups. It's safe to say Bryce Harper is on fire. The Nationals outfielder hit six home runs in his last three games, but possibly none bigger than the walkoff bomb he dropped on the Braves Saturday. Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant may have been batting .278 with a .422 OBP and 14 RBIs in his first 20 games. But until Saturday, he'd yet to hit the all-important first career home run. The rookie connected on a three-run shot to left-center for what was likely the first of many for the Cubs' expected star. Elsewhere, Mookie Betts homered twice, and Bartolo Colon proved he's the best journeyman pitcher in baseball in yet another interesting night in MLB.
